Earthquake in Haiti: The CRC Sogema team makes a donation of $25,000 to the “CECI –Haiti- Emergency”

Longueuil, January 28th, 2010. One week after the violent earthquake that ravaged Port-Au Prince, CRC Sogema announces that it will be making a donation in the amount of $25,000 to the Centre d’études et de coopération internationale (CECI) for its “CECI – Haiti – Emergency” campaign.

The money is destined for the earthquake’s victims and was gathered by a fundraiser held among the employees of CRC Sogema. Through generous personal donations, the employees raised $12,038. This sum will be matched by CRC Sogema for a total donation of $25,000.

The situation in Haiti has directly affected CRC Sogema through the projects we are conducting in the region. We currently have six projects underway in Haiti in the fields of the environment, education, training and public finance.

On January 12th, when the catastrophe struck, two employees of CRC Sogema and a consultant were working in the field. Luckily, all three were unharmed and were repatriated back to Canada to be with their families.

Our choice of CECI as the recipient for our donation was made because they have been working actively in Haiti for over 40 years. In the first hour after the catastrophe struck, they mobilised a network of solid local partners who helped facilitate humanitarian operations. The funds raised will be used to respond to the dire needs identified by the teams and partners working in the field.
